REGINA -- "Struggling" is an adjective that is not generally applied to the Montreal Alouettes, but there is no doubt the perennial powerhouse has fallen on hard times this CFL season. The Alouettes are off to a 2-4 start, and now go on the road to face a Saskatchewan Roughrider team looking to avenge its first loss of the season. You can see all the action on TSN and TSN Mobile TV beginning at 4pm et/1pm pt. "It doesnt sit well with anybody," veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo told reporters Friday. "We are just not accustomed to being 2-4. Its very disturbing." Normally, this is the time of year when general manager Jim Popp would be touring NFL camps in search of import talent. Instead, he is on the sidelines as a replacement for fired head coach Dan Hawkins, trying to return the team to its former winning ways. "Its an evaluation as much as anything," said Popp, who considers himself a "transition" coach. "And it seems like its going in the right direction." Calvillo is convinced that the talent is there and he says the players have confidence in the coaching staff. "Its part of the cycle, part of football life," he said of the teams current woes, adding that he, personally, is determined to fight his way through it. "Im not a quitter." As scenarios go, Mosaic Stadium is not the ideal environment for a team that is sputtering as opposed to streaking. Popp knows that road games are a challenge at the best of times, and Ridervile in particular is "a very tough place" to play. The Roughriders announced a sellout crowd of 40,637 will take in Saturdays game. Calvillo has always loved competing in Saskatchewan, owing to the energized and energizing atmosphere created by the hometown fans. "At the same time," he said, "we have a job to do." For their part, the Roughriders are downplaying last weeks 42-27 loss to the Stampeders that ended their bid at a perfect season. "On defence, we could have done a lot more things, we know that," linebacker Craig Butler said. "This defence takes a lot of pride in everything we do. Well bounce back." Added defensive back Dwight Anderson: "This has been a great week in practice. Im looking forward to (Saturdays) game." Slotback Geroy Simon says he holds the Alouettes defence in high regard, particularly the teams secondary. "Theyre a veteran group and they play aggressively," he said. "I think weve just got to execute, thats all. We have to keep the ball out of (Calvillos) hands. We need to come up with first downs." Quarterback Darian Durant says the Roughriders are ready to move on from last weeks loss. "Definitely, the guys are a lot more motivated," he said. "(Last week) was a wake-up call for us and wake-up calls are good. We have to make sure we dont look behind us. We have to look ahead." By "looking ahead," Durant does not mean looking past the Alouettes. Indeed, he has been cautioning his teammates not to judge Montreal on its record. "We cant take them lightly," he said. "They have weapons all over the place." Although they have never been teammates, Durant has always admired Calvillo, for his ability to read defences and his penchant for building close relationships with his receivers. By observing Calvillo, he has also learned "how to be a pro." As recently as Friday, Saskatchewan head coach Corey Chamblin discussed with his players the importance of regaining that "winning attitude." He has dismissed the loss in Calgary as simply being one of those things. "It wasnt our night," he said. Matt Mantei Jersey . John Wall missed a driving layup attempt at the buzzer for Washington, which was seeking its third straight win.NEW ORLEANS - Tyreke Evans stood on the baseline and gave an affirmative nod to the crowd. His powerful driving layup over LeBron James late in the third quarter left little doubt about the New Orleans Pelicans determination to overcome the loss of Anthony Davis — not to mention the return of James.Evans had 31 points and 10 assists, Ryan Anderson tied a career high with eight 3-pointers on his way to 30 points, and the Pelicans beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 119-114 on Friday night. Its all about having fun, Evans said. Tonight, it looked like we were having fun. Everybody was moving the ball, getting good shots, playing together. When we play like that, we are unstoppable.Davis left the game with 5:30 left in the first quarter, complaining of pain in his chest after a free throw by Kevin Love. Team officials could not immediately specify how or when the injury occurred, but Pelicans spokesman Matt Ryan called the injury a chest contusion from an apparent collision with another players elbow.I just know when he was on the bench he was wincing as if he couldnt breathe, so I was hesitant to put him back in the game, Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. We watched him for a while and he took himself out. Thats when I knew he didnt feel right.James, returning from a one-game absence because of a sore left knee, scored 41 points, while Love added 21.Im trying not to think about it while Im out there. Just try to go out and play, James said of his knee. Obviously, its a little sore now, you know, just coming from one game off, but Im going to continue to do what we need to do to strengthen it and get it back right and make sure Im OK.Kyrie Irving played one night after hurting his left knee in a collision with Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook, but struggled early. He missed his first nine shots and did not score any of his 17 points until the fourth quarter, when Cleveland trailed by as many as 19.Cavs coach David Blatt said Irving, showed heart and the character to get out there and play as hard as he could. On the verge of being blown out, the CCavs didnt quit, pulling to 112-107 after Irving scored five quick points and James Jones added a 3-pointer with 54 seconds to go.ddddddddddddLuke Babbitt responded with only his second field goal — also his second 3-pointer — and Cleveland could not recover.Jrue Holiday finished with 16 points for New Orleans. He and Anderson dominated the second half, and Andersons final 3-pointer gave New Orleans its largest lead at 100-81 with 8:37 to go.This was a game that we knew that we had to fight extra hard without (Davis), Anderson said. This was a huge win for us so Im really happy with the way we played.___TIP-INSCavaliers: James hit two 3-pointers to become the Cavaliers leader in that category with 804, passing Mark Price, who had 802. ...
